Living Out A New Kind of Freedom
Saying farewell to the class of 2011
As you wrap up your first semester of college, chances are you have a different outlook on life than you did even six months ago. You have learned a lot about yourself, good and bad, and hopefully can continue on now with a better vision for yourself. If you have been tracking with this website for the past year then you know, as far as we are concerned, you are finished with your transition year. During this year, we have tried to help you transition from high school to college. It has been our hope that you reach five core goals by the time you finished your first semester in college that will insure a smooth spiritual transition into college:
Be CONFIDENT in who you are in Christ
Get ORIENTED in your new surroundings in college
Become RESPONSIBLE for your schedule and decisions
ENGAGE in serving and growing in your walk with Christ
SURROUND yourself with friends in Christ-like community
Life is a journey. It’s an adventure that can be exciting and full of joy and purpose. But, as you get older, you are finding out that life is also about choices. Good or bad, the daily choices you make now will affect the rest of your life. With choices comes freedom. Freedom to do anything you want to do, which you have already experienced in one semester of college. The truth is, the older you get, the more freedom you will have and the more impacting your decisions will be. That is why now is the time to make that most important decision to take your faith seriously and become responsible for it. We have now spent 12 months focusing on how to do it. You must learn to focus your mind on Christ, but remember, this is not an overnight result. That’s why it is called a journey. Take it one day at a time, each moment growing closer through prayer, reading the Bible, surrounding yourself with other believers, and making good, wise decisions.
Following Jesus in college can be an awesome experience. You have more opportunities to grow in your faith now than in years past. Yes, college is about freedom, but the journey with Christ is a new kind of freedom!
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36
